An Atom or RSS feed for your blog is still important despite the untimely demise of Google Reader. Twitter replaced a lot of RSS feeds, but the evolution of Twitter has made it clear that we should be maintaining a certain level of control over the distribution our our content–just like we do with APIs.
Atom and RSS feeds were the original API for our blog posts, podcasts, and other useful content. Publish an Atom feed for your blog, and consider if Atom would work for other resources you make available to consumers. Then showcase your feeds alongside your APIs.
There are still plenty of services and tools that speak RSS and Atom out there, and when you are in the API game, having simple content feeds to support your APIs is a great way to syndicate and stay connected with consumers–making use of proven legacy technology.
